Kenji Niwa
inFounder & CEO, Chief Editor
Kenji Niwa is the Founder and CEO of Firstcard. He started his first company while still in college in Japan, then spent nine years running iTank, the country's largest internship platform. He grew iTank without outside funding and sold it to a publicly traded company. After moving to the U.S., Kenji became a visiting scholar at Stanford University and began angel investing. He has made about 40 angel investments, including Substack, which became a unicorn, and three of his portfolio companies have gone public. When he applied for his first U.S. credit card, he was rejected because he had no U.S. credit history. So while attending the MBA program at UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business, he started Firstcard to help people build credit from zero, no matter who they are or where they come from. Firstcard has since grown from a card company into a personal finance platform with the same mission: to make finance simple, accessible, and transparent, so everyone can choose the right financial products with confidence.
