- Eligibility
- The minimum advance is $25. If your account sits idle for 12 months with no deposits or withdrawals, Dave charges a $5 monthly inactivity fee. Dave reassesses your eligibility and advance amount every day. Dave's own pages name two different banks for this account: Coastal Community Bank on its deposit agreement, and Evolve Bank & Trust on its fee schedule. We do not know which one holds your money.
Pros & cons
Pros
- Dave's CashAI system checks your linked account every day. Your advance amount can change, and you do not have to reapply.
- Send your advance to a Dave Checking account and get it instantly for free. Only an external debit card carries the 1.5% express fee.
- Advances range from $25 to $500, so you borrow only what you need.
- Dave charges one flat fee on every advance now. It ditched the old optional tip screen in early 2025.
- Dave charges no interest and no late fees on ExtraCash advances.
- Dave never runs a credit check when you apply. It will not affect your credit score.
Cons
- Dave's current fee page shows no cap on the 5% fee. A Dave investor release from February 2025 advertised a $15 cap instead.
- News reports say Dave dropped the fee cap for most members at its August 2026 earnings call. It is unclear if long-time members still have one. Ask in the app before you rely on a cap.
- Dave charges a membership fee of up to $5 a month. You pay it even in months you do not take an advance.
- Express delivery to an external debit card costs 1.5% of your advance, on top of the 5% fee.
- As of September 2026, the FTC's case against Dave over its old fee and tip practices is still pending. No settlement has been filed.
- Dave does not publish exact eligibility numbers. You have to link your bank account first to find out if you qualify and how much you can borrow.
