TJX Rewards Platinum Mastercard Review: Fees & Rewards

June 13, 2026

If T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods are part of your regular routine, the TJX Rewards Platinum Mastercard is built to reward those trips. It earns a strong 5% back at the TJX family of stores and a smaller rate everywhere else. The key word is Mastercard, because this open-network version can be used far beyond the store, unlike the basic TJX store card.

This review covers the rewards, the certificates, the fees and the high APR you need to plan around. Firstcard does not issue this card. We compare it so you can decide before you apply.

Store card versus Platinum Mastercard

There are two TJX Rewards cards, and the difference matters. The basic TJX Rewards credit card is store-only. It works at T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, HomeSense and Sierra, and nowhere else.

The TJX Rewards Platinum Mastercard is the open-network version, issued by Synchrony Bank. It earns the same 5% at TJX stores but can also be used anywhere Mastercard is accepted, where it earns rewards on outside purchases. For most shoppers, the Platinum Mastercard is the more useful card because it does everything the store card does and more. If you are weighing the two formats in general, our Visa card vs store card breakdown covers the same trade-off.

How the rewards work

Both cards earn 5% back in Rewards points at the TJX family of stores. The Platinum Mastercard adds earning outside TJX, with 1% back in points when you shop anywhere else Mastercard is accepted.

Points convert into Rewards Certificates. You need 1,000 points to earn a $10 certificate, and points are worth a penny each toward certificates. Certificates are issued in $10 increments and can be spent in store or online at the TJX brands.

The points themselves do not expire while your account is open. Once points convert into a certificate, though, that certificate expires about two years after it is issued, so use them before the deadline.

Welcome offers and shopping perks

The TJX Rewards Platinum Mastercard does not run a large traditional sign-up bonus the way travel cards do. Instead, TJX sometimes offers a limited-time discount on your first purchase or bonus points when you open the card in store. These offers come and go, so check the current terms when you apply.

Cardholders also get access to cardmember shopping events and early notice on certain sales. The real draw is the steady 5% rate rather than a one-time bonus.

APR and fees to plan around

The biggest catch is the interest rate. The purchase APR is about 28.49% variable as of June 2026, which is high even for a retail card. There is no introductory 0% offer to soften it. If you are unsure how APR works, it is worth a quick read before you carry any balance on a card like this.

That rate means the rewards only pay off if you clear your balance every month. A 5% reward is easily erased by interest if you carry a balance for long. A late payment can also bring fees and may trigger a penalty rate, so review the cardholder agreement.

The good news is there is no annual fee, so simply holding the card costs nothing. Watch the interest, not a yearly charge.

If approval is a concern, or you would rather have a card that earns cash back you can use anywhere instead of store certificates, the Aspire Cash Back Rewards Mastercard is an unsecured card with no security deposit, prequalification up to a $1,000 limit, up to 3% cash back, and reports to all three bureaus.

Who the card fits and who should skip it

This card fits a frequent TJX shopper who pays in full each month. In that situation the 5% back on home goods and clothing you already buy is hard to beat.

It is a weaker fit if you rarely shop the TJX brands or if you tend to revolve a balance. The 1% rate on outside spending is below what many flat-rate cash-back cards pay, so it is not a strong everyday card on its own.

Approval generally favors fair-to-good credit, often in the 580 to 739 range, which puts it among store cards for fair credit that are realistic to qualify for. Synchrony reports to Equifax, Experian and TransUnion, so on-time payments can help build your credit over time. Synchrony also issues other retail programs like Synchrony Home if you are comparing cards from the same bank.

Honest alternatives to consider

If your credit is still being built and you cannot yet qualify for a stronger rewards card, a paycheck-powered product can help you establish a payment history at lower risk, then revisit a rewards card later.

Perpay is powered by your paycheck — no security deposit, shop and pay over time while it reports to all three bureaus, members see an average 32-point increase. For someone with a steady paycheck who wants progress without a hard pull, it can be a strong starting point. Terms and conditions apply, and APRs vary by creditworthiness.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who issues the TJX Rewards Platinum Mastercard?

How much does the TJX Rewards Platinum Mastercard earn?

It earns 5% back in Rewards points at the TJX family of stores, including T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods, and 1% back on all other Mastercard purchases. Every 1,000 points convert into a $10 Rewards Certificate.

Do TJX Rewards points or certificates expire?

The points do not expire while your account stays open and in good standing. Once points are converted into a Rewards Certificate, that certificate expires about two years from its issue date, so redeem it before then.
